AKARI FORMALIZES FOUNDATION’S LIM LIOK LIM AND CARTER TIU SCHOLARSHIPS
A New Era for Filipino Sports: Akari Helps Build the Home of the UAAP
Extending its support to the Filipino youth beyond collegiate sports, Akari, the Philippines’ leading lighting and energy company, recently gathered the 2018-2019 Adamson University scholars of the company. In an intimate dinner, Christopher Tiu, Akari CEO, reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to help enlighten the future of the next generation of Filipino professionals.
“Through the Lim Liok Lim and Carter Tiu scholarships, we aim to give back via tertiary scholarship grants. The immediate family members of our employees, as well as the nearest kin of the athletes of the company-sponsored school teams are our priority. We’re also open to providing scholarship grants to indigent but deserving individuals,” the lowkey executive said.
Scholars of the Akari Foundation can choose an engineering-related course under the Carter Tiu Scholarship; other specializations will fall under the Lim Liok Lim Scholarship. Aside from a full tuition fee grant, scholars will also receive free textbooks and the exclusive opportunity to be hired by the top local lighting brand in the Philippines after earning their degree — a complete education-to-employment pathway designed to uplift deserving Filipino families.
“The Akari Foundation scholars should take advantage of the quality of education they stand to receive from a top Philippine university. We are likewise happy to expand our partnership with Adamson University. We not only support the university’s athletic program in the UAAP; beyond that, we believe in the high-quality Vincentian education. It is our hope that in the future, our grantees will in turn give back by helping their respective families have a brighter and better life,” Tiu closed.
The Akari Foundation scholarship program reflects the company’s broader mission of corporate social responsibility in the Philippines — investing not just in energy-efficient lighting solutions for homes and businesses, but also in the long-term development of human capital and the communities they serve.

For Akari Chief Executive Officer Christopher Tiu, the Home of the UAAP stands as more than a landmark; it embodies the company’s long-standing mission to empower communities and support grassroots sports development.
“We’ve successfully increased the seating capacity in the upper-ground or general admission area, raising it from nearly 7,000 to more than 8,000 seats,” Tan revealed.
He added that the project team is also carefully studying proposals to introduce standing room areas, prioritizing both safety and accessibility for fans.
“Safety remains a top priority. Should standing zones be added, there will be protective barriers in place, along with clear emergency discharge routes to ensure everyone’s well-being,” Tan explained.
In his speech, Tan expressed gratitude to the UAAP for entrusting Athletica Asia Land Corporation with such a meaningful endeavor.
“Today, as we break ground, we’re not just laying the foundation of a structure — we’re building a legacy. This will be a space that inspires future generations and unites people through the power of sports,” he said.
